    Sommer Metalcraft offers competitive wages that are dependent upon what position you are offered and the skills and experience you bring with you to that position.
  • 3. Does Sommer Metalcraft offer paid vacation and holidays?
    Following 90 days of service, new hires are eligible for holiday pay. We generally observe 9 holidays a year. Employees begin accruing vacation after the first week they are employed. The amount of vacation accrued each week worked is dependent upon years of service with a maximum amount of 4 weeks after 20 years of service.

    Employees who have excelled at their current position and shown an aptitude toward learning new things are often considered for greater responsibility and new roles within the company. Many of our supervisors started out as operators and worked their way into positions of greater responsibility and of course greater pay.
  • 5. What is your average length of service?
    Sommer prides itself on the longevity of its employees. The average length of service of our employees is 20 years.
  • 6. Why do employees stay so long?
    Many employees would tell you they enjoy the people. Also, this is a job shop so we are making different products all the time. That makes it a challenge, but also makes it interesting.
  • 7. What shifts do you run?
    The manufacturing floor runs two (2) shifts. The day shift operates Monday through Friday 8 hours a day. Powder Coating generally starts at 6 am and runs until 2:30; the rest of the production departments start at 7 am and run until 3:30. We are looking to add a third shift in Powder Coating. The second shift operates Monday through Thursday from 3:30 pm to 2:00 am. The office hours are generally 8 am to 5:00 pm.
  • 8. What about safety?
    Safety is definitely a priority. It’s safety first, quality second and speed third for any task. Our production equipment has been guarded per OSHA regulations. Safety glasses are required on the factory floor. Other personal protective equipment may also be required; please check the position summary for specific safety requirements, i.e. safety-toed shoes, respirator use, hearing protection.
  • 9. Is a drug screen required?
    All job offers are contingent upon successful completion of a urine drug screen. Once employed, employees are subject to random drug screens. We also test for illegal drugs or alcohol following a work related accident or upon suspicion of intoxication at work. These are to ensure that the environment in which our employees work is free from the potential safety hazards of impaired employees at work.
